I am back in the office after a couple of days on the road. I left Tuesday afternoon for Nashville hoping to avoid the inevitable storms coming our way. Little did I know what was to come. Approximately two-thirds of the way to Nashville I called home to find out that tornado’s had been spotted close to my home and my wife was taking cover in the bathroom. I stayed on the phone with her for about an hour to make sure she was alright. I felt quite helpless talking to her and not being there to help and assure her that everything would be OK. Once at the hotel I monitored the weather via the Internet and checked on her periodically. Luckily Tennessee was playing Florida in basketball to take my mind off the fast moving storms. As the first half of the game ended, myself and other were told we had to move from the sports-bar area of the hotel to the lobby because of severe storms. Once in the lobby we were moved to the ballroom and eventually into the basement of the hotel. This was nerve-racking as I was considering begin buried below a lot a rubble if a tornado came through downtown Nashville. After returning to the lobby did I learn that Jackson, TN had been hit hard, specifically the campus of Union University. I got off the interstate yesterday on my way home and saw first hand the damage-unbelievable. It is truly a miracle that none of the students in the dorms were killed.
Storms
February 8, 2008 by BradSuper Tuesday a good day to travel
February 5, 2008 by BradThis morning as I drove my 6 year old to school we noticed cars in the parking lot of a local Baptist church. I questioned “What’s going on there?” I then remembered it was Super Tuesday and the locals were showing up to vote. I then had to explain what Super Tuesday was in kindergarten language. I must say that it was a hard concept to simplify. After my poor attempt to explain, she said “Looks like you picked a good day to go on a trip!” We then digressed to a conversation about Hannah Montana.
Crazy Weather
February 5, 2008 by BradToday I traveled around Memphis and North Mississippi looking at real estate. At one point during the afternoon I saw a scrolling display on a sign with a temperature reading of 78! For Memphis this is not uncommon…if it was Mid-May. I am not sure if this is global warming or not, but it is weird. I just planted some tulips yesterday (yes I was late) and may see them blooming before the end of the month.
Bringing hats back!
February 4, 2008 by BradI recently bought myself a fedora at Mr. Hats in Memphis. I got a Biltmore black dress hat. I think a hat worn with a suit is very classy. After seeing the box and how it rests for storage, it brings back memories of seeing my dad’s hat sitting in the closet by the front door. I wonder if he still has any of his hats? Of course the practical reason to wear it is to protect your head from the elements. I have not been brave enough to wear it out. I have put it on in the morning and worn it until I am in the car. I cannot keep it on in the car because it hits the top(I am tall). I hope I am part of a new trend to bring hats back.
My vote for President
February 4, 2008 by BradThis is a difficult vote for me this time around. I will be voting for John McCain tomorrow only because he is the best of the worst. I have never voted for a democrat and would not dare vote for either Obama or Clinton. My republican choices come down to McCain, Romney and Huckabee. Of the three, McCain seems to be the most experienced to be President. Romney is a rich business man, but has no foreign policy experience. Huckabee has experience in the church and Arkansas, neither of which qualifies him to be the leader of the free world.
It would be nice to have a candidate that I was passionate about. In the last three or four elections, I have only voted to not elect the democratic nominee. I had hoped that Dr. Bill Frist would run, but I guess he would rather be a successful physician.
Back again
February 4, 2008 by BradI am going to try this again after reading an interesting article. I am going to attempt to write daily, but don’t anticipate to be that disciplined.
